Pentecost

“When the day of Pentecost arrived, the Apostles were all together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the holy spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the holy spirit gave them this ability.”[Acts 2:1-4]

Pentecost does not receive the recognition other holidays do, which precede it. But, it is one of the most important days in biblical Christianity. It is the initial outpouring of Gods gift of holy spirit, foretold by Christ - which came 50 days after his resurrection.

Pentecost is also called the ‘birthday of The Church’, because it enabled people (formerly of different religious factions, denominations and backgrounds) to all receive the same spiritual nature - the same that Christ also received from God.

“So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.” [Heb 2:11]

This ended the spiritual divisions and hostilities when becoming part of the same spiritual body and family - the same opportunity still exists today:

“For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups.” [Eph. 2:14,15]

The world may not have noticed, but spiritual wholeness, peace and unity have already been made available... and are being enjoyed by many who have accepted what was offered on Pentecost.

We’re celebrating that today! Happy Birthday to all of our spiritual family!
