Father's Day - Fatherly Love
Happy Father’s Day to All #Fathers & Father-figures!
Today has us reflecting on aspects of Gods #fatherlylove .
Because God is spirit and not human (Jhn. 4:24), scripture uses the attributes of a great human father to illustrate basic aspects of how God is:
God is very kind:
“Like a good father is kind to his children, so the LORD is kind to those who honor Him.” [Psa.103:13]
God balances correction with love & encouragement:
“You have forgotten the encouraging words that God speaks to you as His children: My child, pay attention when the Lord instructs you. Don't be discouraged when He corrects you. The Lord instructs everyone He loves. He disciplines everyone He accepts as His child." [Heb. 12:5-7]
God comforts us and shows us how to comfort others:
‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” [2 Cor. 1:3,4 ]
God shows us how be confident and address our needs properly:
“Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything. Dear friends, when our conscience doesn't condemn us, we can boldly look to God. He will then give us what we ask, because we obey Him and do what pleases Him.” [1 Jhn. 3:20-22]
Good Fathers are a pillar in a child’s life – influencing who they become and how they relate to others.
Like their words have integrity, God’s Words have perfect integrity all the more!
Whether we have father-figures to imitate or not, God established His standard for fatherhood in scripture so that we may continue to learn and experience His perfect fatherly love.
In God, we have the perfect example to follow from having been dearly loved by a TRULY GOOD Father:
“Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children” [Eph. 5:1]
